Project Engineering Manager
Job Description
A large manufacturing organization is seeking an Project Engineering Manager to lead capital and operational projects within a high-volume processing environment. This role is responsible for end-to-end project ownership, from early concept and design through installation and startup, while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, regulatory, and operational requirements. The ideal candidate brings strong technical acumen, structured project management skills, and the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, regulated manufacturing setting.
- Maintain full responsibility for assigned engineering projects from initial concept through final execution and closeout.
- Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, and success metrics in alignment with operational and business goals.
- Develop and manage detailed project plans, including schedules, resource requirements, budgets, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate closely with internal stakeholders such as operations, maintenance, quality, and safety teams to ensure seamless execution.
- Engage, evaluate, and manage external vendors, contractors, and equipment suppliers.
- Prepare and control project budgets; track expenditures and ensure adherence to approved financial plans.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, efficiency improvement, and waste elimination without compromising safety or quality.
- Ensure all projects comply with applicable regulatory standards, food safety requirements, and internal policies.
- Champion a strong safety culture throughout all phases of project execution.
- Support plant modernization initiatives, equipment upgrades, and process improvement efforts.
- Oversee contract administration, including scope alignment, performance monitoring, and delivery timelines.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation and provide regular status updates to leadership.
- Conduct post-project reviews, documenting outcomes, lessons learned, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Adhere to scheduled work hours and attendance expectations to support effective collaboration and project continuity.
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of engineering project management experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Proven ability to manage projects from concept through installation and commissioning.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and prioritization skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficiency with project management tools and software.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred).
- Experience in food, beverage, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
- Working knowledge of food safety standards and applicable regulatory guidelines (e.g., USDA).
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification.
- Experience supporting capital equipment installations and process optimization initiatives.
