General Manager
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced General Manager to lead a manufacturing business unit with full profit and loss responsibility. This role has accountability for both revenue and cost performance and is responsible for strategic planning, annual operating plans, sales and marketing alignment, and day-to-day operations including manufacturing and distribution. The General Manager will develop and execute business strategies to meet or exceed key performance indicators and net income objectives through effective leadership and cross-functional collaboration. This is a senior, single-incumbent role responsible for one business or business line, or multiple smaller business lines.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership for planning, organizing, staffing, coordinating, and decision-making to achieve profitable business results while ensuring compliance with regulatory and company policies
- Develop, manage, and execute annual operating plans; establish strategies and tactics to achieve financial objectives; present assumptions, projections, and recommendations; and adjust plans as business conditions change
- Establish pricing strategies to maximize operating income by analyzing cost drivers (e.g., commodities, fuel, resin) and applying strong market, customer, and competitive insights
- Partner with operations leadership to direct production activities, with marketing to commercialize new and improved products, and with distribution teams to optimize distribution strategies
- Lead cross-functional initiatives focused on growth, continuous improvement, and other critical business priorities; set clear direction, engage appropriate stakeholders, and ensure effective execution using standard processes and tools
- Identify and manage business risk, including contractual and legal considerations; exercise sound judgment in agreements related to new business, facilities, bids, and distribution arrangements, consulting leadership and legal resources as appropriate
- Communicate organizational goals and align business-level objectives accordingly; clearly articulate business direction, priorities, and performance expectations
- Develop, mentor, and retain management talent through effective coaching, training, succession planning, and performance management
- Foster a positive leadership culture with strong communication, motivation, and recognition practices
- Perform additional duties as required to support business objectives
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- 12+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within food and/or beverage manufacturing, with direct profit and loss accountability
- 4+ years of people management experience, including leadership of senior managers and multiple functional departments
- Demonstrated success improving performance in quality, safety, service, and cost
- Certifications or licenses may be required during the course of employment
