Maintenance Manager
Job Description
A large-scale manufacturing operation is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead plant maintenance activities and ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of production equipment and facility systems. This role is responsible for directing maintenance personnel, managing preventive maintenance programs, improving equipment reliability, controlling maintenance costs, and supporting overall operational performance. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership experience in a manufacturing environment and the ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all maintenance department operations, including equipment reliability, facility upkeep, and utility systems
- Develop and maintain a skilled maintenance team capable of supporting production operations safely and efficiently
- Oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and improve equipment performance
- Ensure equipment operates within established specifications and manufacturer tolerances
- Serve as the primary escalation point for emergency maintenance and critical equipment issues
- Partner with operations and engineering teams to evaluate equipment modifications, upgrades, and replacement opportunities
- Analyze maintenance and capital expenditure proposals and provide recommendations to leadership
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels and controls for spare parts and maintenance supplies
- Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives related to maintenance, utilities, and facility operations
- Develop and maintain maintenance procedures, standards, and departmental policies
- Monitor departmental scheduling and labor utilization to optimize productivity while minimizing unnecessary overtime
- Lead employee recruitment, training, coaching, performance management, and disciplinary processes in accordance with company policies
- Support and enforce workplace safety, food safety, quality, sanitation, and regulatory compliance requirements
- Maintain awareness of industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to mechanical and electrical systems
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support production goals and continuous improvement initiatives
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Job Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
- 5+ years of maintenance leadership experience in manufacturing, industrial operations, or related environments
- Previous supervisory or management experience required
- Experience leading safety initiatives and compliance programs strongly preferred
- Technical certifications or licenses in areas such as electrical systems, welding, boilers, refrigeration, compressed air, wastewater treatment, or plumbing are a plus
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of industrial maintenance systems, equipment, and manufacturing processes
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance principles and maintenance planning practices
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and maintenance management systems
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team development capabilities
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and adapt to changing operational demands
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and foster a team-oriented environment
