Production Supervisor
Job Description
A manufacturing facility is seeking a Production Supervisor to oversee sanitation, production operations, and team performance within a high-volume processing environment. This role is responsible for ensuring equipment sanitation, maintaining operational efficiency, and supporting food safety and regulatory compliance across the production floor. The supervisor will lead production personnel, coordinate shift activities, and ensure the facility consistently meets safety, quality, and productivity expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operational Oversight
- Supervise production activities to ensure equipment and processes operate within established performance standards
- Monitor production output and address operational issues that impact throughput or efficiency
- Investigate and document reasons when production targets are not achieved
Sanitation & Food Safety
- Oversee sanitation activities including Clean-In-Place (CIP) systems and verification checks
- Conduct equipment inspections following sanitation cycles to ensure readiness for production
- Verify chemical concentrations and sanitation effectiveness through testing and inspections
- Maintain adherence to food safety programs including GMP, HACCP, and facility sanitation procedures
Team Leadership
- Direct, coach, and train production staff to maintain safe and efficient work practices
- Ensure employees clearly understand their roles and responsibilities during each shift
- Monitor team performance and provide feedback or corrective action when needed
- Support workforce planning, scheduling, and daily staffing coordination
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure accurate completion of production and sanitation records
- Maintain compliance with internal procedures, regulatory requirements, and food safety standards
- Participate in required training programs related to quality, safety, and food manufacturing
Continuous Improvement
- Support operational improvement initiatives focused on productivity, safety, and workplace organization
- Contribute to programs such as Lean manufacturing, Kaizen, and workplace efficiency initiatives
Administrative Responsibilities
- Review and approve employee time and attendance records
- Monitor attendance patterns and address scheduling or coverage needs
- Provide leadership support and technical guidance to operators when troubleshooting equipment issues
Job Requirements
Education
- High school diploma or GED required
Experience
- Prior experience in a manufacturing environment required
- Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience in a production environment
- Familiarity with sanitation systems and food safety practices within manufacturing operations preferred
Preferred Certifications
- Food safety or quality system certifications (e.g., SQF practitioner or equivalent)
- Experience with regulatory compliance programs related to food production
